Mary Torres
Mary Torres is a Masters Level Social Worker, Educator & RYT 200.
Mary has been working with children and families who have experienced traumatic life experiences for over 25 years. Her hope is to assist children in cultivating a practice of inner peace that assists with social, emotional learning and self regulation. Mary believes that through understanding, forming empathic & compassionate relationships in a supportive, nurturing environment, we can help quiet the mind and open the heart to find a sense of inner peace and outer connectedness.
Mary first discovered the practice of mindful meditation through the writings of Thich Nhat Hanh. While working with preschoolers who were exhibiting challenging behaviors she integrated mindful moments during circle time and classroom transitions. Later she would leave her position as director of that pre-school to study meditation at Bodhi Manda Zen Center in New Mexico.
It was when she adopted her daughter 14 years ago that Mary started to practice Yoga with the hopes that introducing her daughter to yoga integrating movement and challenging poses during home practice, would assist her daughter with the very big feelings she was having as they became a family.
Yoga, meditation and creating inspirational living & learning environments are essential elements of Mary’s life, attending classes children will walk away with skills for living and loving themselves and the world around them.
